Using 15 N tracers we measured rates of dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) in upland humid tropical forest soils averaging ∼0.6 μg·g −1 ·d −1. Rates of DNRA were three times greater than the combined N 2 O and N 2 fluxes from nitrification and denitrification and accounted for 75% of the turnover of the nitrate pool.

Process and product quality control in urea-ammonium nitrate production. Ammonium nitrate (AN) and urea are used as feedstocks in the urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) liquid fertilizers production. Typically, most UAN solutions contain 28%, 30% or 32% nitrogen but other customized concentrations (including additional nutrients) are also produced.

As a reference case in the study, steam reforming of natural gas was used for ammonium nitrate production (Fig. 1).
