An oversized filter on the return side is your best bet. Any good hydraulic supply house can tell you what you need. Oh, and there should be very little pressure on the filter in the return line, as this should be a open ended line back into the tank. Your filter would cause a small amount of back pressure but not much. (like 10-20 psi, at most)
